Meet Tropical Vegan Cafe

Geannie Hyacinthe has always had a passion for cooking. Due to an increased demand to sell her meals to the public, Geannie set the goal to become one of the best Black Vegan Chefs in California. After completing her culinary job training in 2019, she started Tropical Vegan Café with the desire to ensure that San Diego has convenient and accessible options for healthy island-style vegan food.

Geannie is certainly motivated by the grind and hustle of business! She is also driven by seeing the passion and creativity of other entrepreneurs in San Diego and how they support each other and continue to evolve to meet the needs of their customers. Geannie is inspired by well-known vegan chefs and influencers who motivate people to transition to healthier eating. Geannie’s customers have also driven her by their desire for local healthier options. She sees Tropical Vegan Café as a community, not just selling vegan food but providing resources to help her customers with meal prep options, shopping guides, and tips on how to transition to a more plant-based lifestyle.

When Geannie sees the joy and satisfaction that her food gives her customers, she understands that “Food is Life” and that food brings people together. What you eat becomes what you are, so Geannie finds it extremely important to ensure that her community is intentional about eating and eating for life rather than eating for death.

Geannie’s favorite memory from 2020 was hosting fundraisers in partnership with local nonprofit organizations. For instance, in partnership with NAACP, Tropical Vegan Café was able to donate 50% of their proceeds to the ACT-SO Organization which helps opportunity youth learn various transferable work, art, music, and/or science-related skills to ensure a great future.

A simple action that people can take to help small businesses like Tropical Vegan Café is to follow them on social media and share pages with friends and followers. Additional ways to support business is to visit the website, join the mailing list, and buy gift cards to help support businesses until everything fully reopens.
